Same problem as in Amsterdam, wooden foundations on mud resulted in inclined houses. Fun fact: one of these houses is a restaurant where sailors used to stop for food and drinks while waiting for the tide to rise so they could get the goods off the ship into directly into back porch. To prevent sailors from getting drunk, the captain did not pay for the trip until after they finished unloading the goods. But the sailors were smart. Every time they stopped by the tavern, they used their spit to stick a bill onto the ceiling. To prove that the money belonged to them before pasting it to the ceiling they would rip off one of the corners. Thus during their next visit they could pull the bill from the ceiling and prove it was their money when the tip of the ticket fit. Once they were able to prove the money was theirs they could buy a few drinks while waiting for the tide to rise. Today the roof of the restaurant is decorated with banknotes from all over the world but fortunately, in the new decor, glue has been used instead of spit.
